astro [sound] bites

I am one-fourth of the brains and operations behind astro[sound]bites. astro[sound]bites is a podcast spin-off of the popular graduate led blog, astrobites. Similarly, we bring synthesize current research in astronomy and connect the dots between different topics to make astronomy more accessible for everyone. We also talk about and highlight different experiences in astronomy with our "Beyond" episodes. A couple of my favorite beyond episode that I have led are episodes: 67 and 68: Breaking the Stigma Around Community College Part 1 and 2, and 76: Black in Astro 2023. As a first generation, bi-racial woman, these topics are near and dear to my heart They were also well-received with many people reaching out to discuss these topics.

Polaris & URSA

The Undergraduate Residential Summer Access program (URSA) is a early arrival orientation program dedicated to forming a friendly community amongst students historically underrepresented in Physics and Astronomy before the school year starts. Within URSA, I was an academic facilitator responsible for instructing the URSA students on introductory astronomy and coding related to exoplanets. We also advised the student groups during their research project where they did some phenomenal work on their topics. Within Polaris, I served as a mentor for 2 years to various students.

Jumpstart

Jumpstart is a national early education organization working toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed. Specifically, Jumpstarts supports schools in low-income neighborhoods to provide language, literacy, and social-emotional programming for preschool children from under-resourced communities and promote quality early learning for all children. Growing up in a under-resourced community myself, I am extremely passionate about giving back. Within Jumpstart, I serve in a variety of roles such as Corps Member, Team Leader, and Volunteer Coordinator over the period of 4 years.
